CBSE - Class 9th - Science - Ch 8 - Motion - Question Bank

Dear Students, till previous chapters we studied about Chemistry and Biology. With Chapter 8th, We shall get started with Physics. In this post, we shall study the fundamental questions which will help you build better foundation and revision of which shall help you stay better prepared for your exams.

To better understand physics fundamentals, the best way is to solve the mathematical problems instead of doing plain reading. Hence this post involve an optimum number of mathematical problems to help you better understand the concepts.

CBSE - NCERT - Class 9th - Science

Chapter 8 - Motion

  • What is the difference between Distance and Displacement?
  • Can an Object have zero displacement in-spite of moving certain distance? Explain with examples.
  • What is the difference between Uniform and Non-Uniform motion?
  • Define speed? What is its SI Unit & Symbol?
  • Nisha runs 100 m. First half of the distance in 10 second and second half in 5 second. What is the average running speed of Nisha?
  • Define Velocity with mathematical expression?
  • During rain, why does the sound of thunder reaches after sometime we see thunder lightning?
  • What is the difference between speed and velocity?
  • Ram started for Delhi from Mumbai with car odometer reading at 1400 km. On reaching Delhi, odometer reading was 3000 km. If the trip tool 25 hours, calculate his average speed in Km/h and m/s.
  • Vijay covers 240 m by swimming from one end to other and back along the same path. She completes it in 2 minutes. Calculate the average speed and average velocity of Vijay.
  • Define Acceleration with mathematical expression and its SI Unit.
  • A Truck driver starts the truck from the state of rest to a velocity of 12 m/s in 1 min. Suddenly due to traffic, he slows down and comes down to 3 m/s in 30 seconds. Calculate the acceleration of the truck in both the cases?
  • A car is moving with uniform velocity of 50 km/h for 5 hours. Find out the distance traveled by  the car between 2nd and 5th hour. Solve the problem using graphical method.
  • State the set of 3 equation for motion involving Velocity, Acceleration, Distance and Time for an object moving along a straight line with uniform acceleration.
  • Derive the equation for Velocity - Time relation for an object that moves under uniform acceleration. Explain with the help of graph.
  • Derive the equation for Position - Time relation for an object moving under uniform acceleration. Explain with the help of graph.
  • Derive the equation for Position - Velocity relation for an object moving under uniform acceleration. Explain with the help of graph.
  • A car starting from the state of rest reaches a velocity of 36 Km/h in 5 minutes. Assuming the acceleration to be uniform, find
    • Acceleration of the car.
    • Distance traveled by the car while attaining this speed.
  • An Auto travelling at 36 Km/hr accelerates to 72 Km/hr in 10 seconds. Find
    • Acceleration of the vehicle
    • Distance covered by the car during that time period.
  • A car in motion applies brake to produce negative deceleration of 18 m/s2 . It stops in 2 seconds and comes to rest. Find
    • Its initial speed before applying brakes
    • Distance traveled by car before it stopped.
  • Take a stone, tie it to one end of a thread and move it in circular path with constant speed by holding the thread at other end. If you release the thread, in which direction does the stone moves after it is releases? Why?

  • Who are called "Advanced" or "Higher Organisms"?
  • Give some examples of various characteristics used for a hierarchical classification.
  • What do you mean by Biodiversity?
  • What are the 5 kingdoms, Whittaker had proposed for the classification of Living Organisms. Explain with diagram of classification tree and basis for classification.
  • How are Monera subdivided further as per modification introduced by Woese in classification?
  • What is the scheme in which the sub-groups of classification are named at various stages.
  • Explain the characteristics of Monera with examples and their diagrams.
  • Explain the characteristics of Protista with examples and their diagrams.

  • Why do we need a Scientific naming system or Nomenclature for living Organisms.

I hope you would find this question bank useful for end to end preparation for this chapter. This chapter is one of most difficult chapter in Biology due to so many classification. They way I would recommend is to read this chapter at-least 3 times a day for at-least 7 days to better remember all the names, characteristics of each type of organism.

If you are aspiring to make a career in Medical science, then this chapter forms the base of your preparation.
